Two peas in a pod. These two swam around together for quite a while. The Mandarin and the Wood Duck are two of my favorites to see. Spotting them in a small pond here in the state was a treat to see.

👪 - What’s their relationship with their parents like?

Victoria’s feelings towards her parents are on two veryyy different spectrums.

She adores her mother, idolises her – though Marion Crane wasn’t exactly the best parent she was a damn good mentor who nurtured her daughter’s colder habits, her little social cruelties and sharp tongue, because she knew it would help Victoria at least survive in their world of rats. Pride doesn’t begin to cover how she felt when she realised her daughter would thrive.

Victoria and her mother keep in contact – even though Marion is back in London, she still answers the call whenever it’s Victoria. Likewise, Victoria has told people to shut up so she can answer her mum’s call. Sharing advice and gossip, the occasional rant. Marion is the only person Victoria will ever say ‘I love you’ to without prompting.

Now, her father on the other hand. oh my god. The only time her indifference towards him falters is when she gets a wave of overwhelming hatred in its stead.

Victoria, when she was younger, built up this ideal of her father in her head. That he was as busy and successful as her mother was, that the reason he could only visit for two weeks during the summer was because that’s just when his team tended to enter a crunch period in their work. That crumbled as she got older, more privy to the goings-on, noting how often he forgot her birthday and didn’t even send a text congratulating her on certain milestones throughout her life.

By the time she comes to Night City, she full-on despises Joseph. Thinks he should remove the Crane from his name entirely because he wasn’t part of the family and he had the gall, the fucking nerve to introduce her half-brother to her with a beaming smile on his face – the cunt’s middle name was Victor, as if his existence wasn’t a stain enough.

Nothing he ever does can fix that, and his attempts to do so just pissed Victoria off even more.

(And while not her parent, Victoria hates Angelo’s mother / her father’s mistress too. To no one’s surprise. It’s a shame she had that very public meltdown and then just…vanished mysteriously. Yup. Damn shame.)

💓 - What are some signs they’ve fallen for someone? How do they show their affection?

Feelings? Her? Never. No—

She gets softer around them, the usual edge to her tongue sheathed just enough that she doesn’t cut them on it, her smile endeared and eyes landing on them when she has a fleeting moment. And then, she realises what’s happening, and she coats herself in a careful indifference to their presence. Treating them like a stranger until that’s what they become.

 (She tried this with Smasher, who caught on to what she was at right quick and decided ‘I am so messing with this cunt.’)

Now, her means of affection – she has enough money that buying expensive shit is nothing to her. It’s thoughtless, easy, like sticking money in a card. But when she really cares for someone, she’ll learn them; their favourite drinks, food, movie, their little habits. She’ll still buy them gifts, but it’s not expense for the sake of expense, she hunts down the things she thinks they’ll like, or what they mentioned needing in an off-hand comment.

Besides gifts, she’s more physically affectionate than one might think. Which, given who I paired her with, can be quite the sight – she has literally pulled Smasher down by the collar to kiss his cheek now and then.

🤔 - What’s something they’ll never understand?

Quantum Physics.

Genuinely, people turning the other cheek when someone wrongs them. Victoria is petty, she’s vengeful – when someone wrongs her, she’ll pretend things are fine just so she can hit them hard and unexpected. She can, and has, waited years for payback.

So when someone who has been hurt or insulted or cheated just lets it flow off their back and makes the willing decision to let that be that, she is so fucking confused. Even more so when they’re forgiving of the person. It’s just something that doesn’t compute with how she was raised and the environment she thrives in.

Victoria had no idea who the fuck Elvis Presley was. None. Not a fucking clue.

Now, she had heard the gossip of Adam Smasher having an Elvis Gemini frame, and she just assumed that was like a specific build – her words on hearing that were along the lines of: “Sounds like a sports model.”

So when a buff, blonde bastard with a pretty southern accent came up to her on a night out, she thought nothing of it, had no idea that it was the face of a long-dead celebrity and that it was in fact Smasher’s lap she was on for most of the night.

She was mortified when she found out, and Smasher will ask her if she knows who Elvis is just to wind her up even years later. Any time his music plays, Victoria deliberately avoids eye contact with anyone who knows about that little mess up.
